ISOE Pre-Events #3 und #5 in Paris

Two pre-events evolved around Aïssatou Mbodj’s research on the Parisian foyers (migrant hostels) and her ISOE collaboration with the photographer Anissa Michalon, both based in Paris. Mbodj and Swarowsky invited Parisian cultural actors to reflect and debate themes tackling migration from new angles.

In the framework of the 4e Festival de Cinéma des Foyers (organized by Attention Chantier) Swarowsky and Mbodj curated a film screening followed by a debate at foyer Lorraine in Paris on June 23rd 2012 — Pre-Event #3. The title of the event was Les Lettres Filmées (Filmed Letters); the debate that followed carried the name Migrer ici, comment en parler là-bas? (How to talk
about migration back home?).

MIGRANT (IN)VISIBLE
Espace Khiasma and Le Silo, Paris
On February 8th and 9th, Mbodj and Swarowsky organised Pre-Event #5, a symposium in collaboration with the art-space Espace Khiasma and the art and theory collective LE SILO. Theme of the symposion was the visual representation and image production around West African migration in Paris, especially around the stigmatized foyers. Various French theoreticians and artists participated. The symposion was accompanied by an exhibit of photos by Anissa Michalon and Vincent Leroux, whose work is also represented in this exhibition.
